Sierra Sandarac, or "Sandman" as he was known, was the Foundation Sire of the SDA program. His incredible temperament and jester-like personality carry on through the many years and foals since he departed. He lived to the age of 31 and is still adored and missed…and heard, in occasional whinnies around the ranch.

He was a powerful, graceful, masculine sight that commanded your attention when he put on a strut.

My gentleman, clown, and sage!

Bint Bint Subani, or "Bonnie Sue" as she was known, was a foundation mare for the SDA program.  As a granddaughter of Subani, and of Saafaddan, she was a treasure. She was truly the epitome of a "war mare".  She had a pulse on the energy of all that went on in our world. She was curious, bold, and fearless, though not particularly patient. She generally had an agenda, and the determination to try to see it through! She was a great mother and had several great foals here for this group.

Bint Sierra SS, or "Sierra" as she was known, was also a foundation mare for the SDA program.  Little Sierra was small in stature but big in heart. She was sensible, quiet, willing, and minded her own business. She was comfortable with most anything. She was smart in a feral sort of way and despite her size could outwalk those twice her size.

Lon Sara came to SDA in a mare group as an aged mare with hopes we could get one more replacement. It was not to be, but her daughter EDA Sahmantha was included and though she was bred out of the group slightly, she did contribute in a lasting way. (See SpiritWind Ahsahm.) Lon Sara was a queen in her own right. NOTHING rattled her and she was proud and full of energy through all of her days. That is not to say she was "hot" for I was told she was used as a pack horse in the mountains, briefly.  She was a link to important old blood close up, and it was a pleasure to have shared a few years with her.

EDA Sahmantha, Lon Sara's daughter, and otherwise known as Sammy.  Like her mother, she was as solid as a rock - nothing ruffled her, ever!  At first glance you might think this was the result of an unusual pairing, but the sire-line maintains consistency in its roots.  Sammy and I dabbled at Endurance, doing very well together.  I sure wish I had her now in her prime! Wow.  She only has one son in this program to bring her contribution of the Babson/Doyle breeding forward and that is SpiritWind Ahsahm, the first black foal by Sierra Sandarac. When I saw him, I squealed "AWESOME!"  So now you know what it means when you see "Ahsahm"!

Maloof Hassan was an aged and unused stallion when he graced our company at SDA. It was an inviting gamble! He was such a gentleman and easy to handle, and ride. Three mares had been bred prior to his unexpected death. When the Vet came out to pregnancy check the mares it was torture as first one, then two of the mares were open. I still recall the immense relief when #3 was indeed pregnant! Sand Dancer SDA now had to carry 11 months successfully, get through birthing, and the foal live to about one month old for good measure...aagh. That was 2007 and SpiritWind Hassana!  Since Hassan had not been used, he did not have DNA on record, things were different back then, but both of his parents did. So...he was exhumed in order to attempt a forensic test to successfully complete Hassana's AHA registration! Hassana now has two wonderful colts of her own!

Sire of: SpiritWind Hassana - his only progeny.
